In the Parade of Legends Saturday evening at Cooperstown. What a great way to end such a special day.
Saturday afternoon at Cooperstown
That afternoon was the ceremony at Abner Doubleday Field to honor Shelden Ocker, who won the J G Taylor Spink Award, the highest award given for a baseball writer, and Bob Costas, who won the Ford C Frick award, given to a broadcaster. Here is Bob getting ready to receive his award.
Once that ceremony was over we headed straight to Main Street for the Parade of Legends, honoring all the of the Hall of Famers who were there for the weekend. I didn’t get a lot of good pictures, but did get this one of Wade Boggs before the sun got so low I couldn’t get any pix at all. It was so much fun.
Cooperstown, Part 3
One of my very favorite rooms in the Hall of Fame Museum was, of course, the Hank Aaron exhibit. There were all kinds of quotes on the wall about Hank, and this one made me smile.
They had this photo op going on outside Abner Doubleday Stadium as we were walking in to see Sheldon Olker and Bob Costas received their Hall of Fame plaques for sports writers and sportscasters. I love it!
Baseball Hall of Fame Museum Part 2
More pictures from the museum: I always liked Rogers Hornsby – his name if nothing else – so enjoyed seeing the displays about his career.
I also absolutely loved the quotes they had about different Hall of Famers around the museum. AND when I was in high school I had done a presentation on Bob Gibson when we had to choose biographies to read and speak about, and his was my choice – possibly because it was one Daddy or one of my brothers was reading, so it was lying around the house.
Baseball Hall of Fame #1
A week ago yesterday Lindee, Jeff, & I loaded up at 5:30 AM and headed to Midlothian, where we met Boo to join him in his truck, left our car at Andy & Amy’s, & hit the road for Cooperstown. We did take about half an hour to visit with Liz and McKenzie, who brought donuts for us to share, and got to our Airbnb in Utica about 9 that evening. LONG day – but SO worth it. We headed out early the next morning to set up our chairs for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony the next day, and then spent most of the day at the actual Hall of Fame. Just so cool. Here is the front – like Lindee said, it truly is a baseball lovers mecca.
I just cannot say enough about all the cool exhibits. Jeff and I are really wanting to go back for another visit when it’s not Hall of Fame weekend, just so we can spend more time in the museum when it isn’t so crowded. I had been before, twenty years ago when Phil Niekro was inducted, but just didn’t remember at all the very cool exhibits about very early baseball. Loved it.
