Roslyn Sorrell

Friday night Meg & I were off to Gastonia, about 15 miles down the road, to see one of the shows in their Performing Arts Series. This is the first year we’ve had tickets to their shows there. They don’t have as many shows as we do here in Clover, but we have so enjoyed them all. Roslyn Sorrell had a beautiful voice, and just sang all kinds of songs. Great time.

Soul of Broadway

Thursday night was our final program in our Performing Arts Series at the auditorium here in town, The Soul of Broadway, starring Terron Brooks. He first starred as David Ruffin in the mini-series about The Temptations back in the 1990’s, so he sang some of their songs. Then he starred on Broadway in The Lion King as Simba, so he sang a couple of songs from that. And then he sang songs from all kinds of Broadway shows. He just had a beautiful voice. Fun time.

Wednesday Track Meet

We were back at Rock Hill High School Wednesday afternoon to see Adam compete in the track meet, and were so, so proud when he matched his PR of ten feet. This is obviously not his best jump – you can see the bar falling down – but he’s always fun to watch, and we loved that he ended up having such a good meet.

With his proud momma after his jump…

Pole Vaulting last week

Still not great action photos, but better than the week before, I think. He cleared nine ft six inches, so that was his best of the season. He was pretty proud.

Lindee, Mallory, & Clara were there cheering him on – no doubt the reason he did so good 🙂

At June’s Dance Competition

Last Sunday afternoon June was competing just down the road in Fort Mill, so Jeff & I, along with my dear friend Charlotte, drove over to watch her perform her solo. And as it turned out, we ran into her just as we walked in the door. She had on her costume top with pajama bottoms to be more comfortable – she didn’t wear those while she was competing :-). She did an absolutely fantastic job – we were so proud.

First Track Meet

Well, the first one we had been to this season. He’d had one earlier and the weather was just so bad we stayed home. This was a huge invitational – I think there were 35 schools there – the Clash of the Carolinas. I got this picture of Adam before he started his event.

We were not at a great spot to get action shots, as you can see. He rolled his ankle on his second run up to vault, so it just wasn’t a great day. It was still fun watching him, though.

Clara’s Choraliers Recital

Last week was Clara’s recital. As a member of the high school chorus, The Choraliers, every student as to perform a solo in front of parents and other students. This year Clara’s song was in Italian, so it was way harder than the one she had to sing last year, which was something from a Disney movie. I got these pictures afterwards, of her with her proud parents…

and grandparents :-). She just did a beautiful job.

At the Library

A couple of weeks ago Lindee & I went to the library in Rock Hill to hear author Vanessa Miller speak about her book, The American Queen. It is a true story about this group of freed slaves, after the Civil War, who formed a sort of commune in the mountains of North Carolina. It sounded so interesting, and I had never heard anything about it. I did buy a copy, just haven’t started on it yet, but can’t wait to do so.

At the State Museum

A couple of weeks ago Meg & I headed to Columbia, where we picked Mallory up & spent the afternoon at the South Carolina State Museum. I didn’t get any pictures of it, but in the planetarium they were having a show about the northern lights in Iceland, and we really wanted to see that. We had fun checking out the exhibits while we were there, too. I actually had no idea that an astronaut from South Carolina had walked on the moon until our preacher had mentioned it at Bible study the week before, so I was excited to see that exhibit.

We didn’t have time to check out nearly all of the exhibits, but I did enjoyed all of the history we learned about on every floor.
