Final Game at Turner Field

What a great, great day Sunday was, when we attended the final Atlanta Braves game to be played at Turner Field.  SO special.  Mason, Boo, Shea, Elise & I went down & spent Saturday night with Greg, Tabitha & Lynleigh; Sherri came to their house early Sunday morning & we all headed over to tailgate, where we met Meg and Hope.  We ate a pretty quick lunch, and while we were eating Boo started taking Turner Field signs off the metal barricades at the parking lots.  Elise was SO proud of her souvenir 🙂img_20161002_122312

We walked over to the old Fulton County Stadium area, and spread some of Poppie’s ashes there. On our way walking into Turner Field we passed all kinds of folks out tailgating, needless to say, including this table of the cutest Braves cookies I ever saw. They very generously shared some with Mason and Lynleigh – so cute.img_20161002_131333

The Braves won the game, beating the Detroit Tigers 1 – 0, on a run scored in the first inning.  Afterwards, there was a pretty amazing ending ceremony, with a ceremonial final pitch, Hank Aaron coming to take homeplate to the new Suntrust Stadium, and a very cool parade of states.  All of the southern states, in the Braves broadcast area, were represented, and then formed on in infield for the final speakers.  The night ended with a final chop, fireworks, confetti and streamers.  It was just so, so special.  Thanks, Turner Field, for an awesome day.

Saturday Pix

Great day Saturday, to kick off an absolutely awesome weekend.  Started off the morning at Clara’s soccer game.  Here she is getting ready to defend against a goal kick.  It was a great match – she scored her first goal of the season, in front of a huge crowd of her fans:  her mom & sister, of course, Addie, Lee, June, Mason, the Wilders, Aunt Sherri and me.  Fun times.img_20161001_115313

Afterwards we headed to church to eat lunch at our annual turkey dinner – everyone except JT & Jenny and their family – and then Mason & I headed to Rock Hill to Boo’s, where we met up with them and then hit the road for Greg and Tabitha’s.  Mason made it maybe – MAYBE – ten miles down the road before he completely crashed.  Addie said he was so excited about our weekend that he’d gotten up at 4:30 that morning, so I’m not surprised he didn’t make it any further before he fell asleep.  Great kick off to our weekend.img_20161001_150451
