June’s Title I Program

This morning was June’s 3rd grade Title I Program at Larne Elementary School. They did such a good job – sang a song about the Revolutionary War, the National Anthem, and then two songs about math that were so cute. The second one, about fractions, was done to the accompaniment of cupping :-). June has been slapping out rhythms with cups for weeks, so we were glad she finally got a chance to show us what they’d learned. She’s in the denim jacket – they did such a good job.

In the hallway near the gym, the standings from Free Throw Fridays were posted.  Needless to say, we were excited to see June in first place for the third grade girls :-).  It was a good morning – and then I headed straight over to take care of Clara for the rest of the day, sick with a stomach virus.  It was good to have such a bright start to the day!IMG_20160317_090957

Hornets Game: Cody vs Victor

Last night The Orlando Magic came to town, & we went to the game early for a Meet and Greet with Victor Olidipo, a former IU Hoosier who plays for the Magic now, as well as with Cody Zeller, who is our IU guy on the Hornets team. They played together at IU, so this is a regular event when the Magic are in town. We got in early to see the shoot around – that’s Victor to the far right, just beside the Indiana hat of the guy who’s sitting in front of me.

We had some time to kill after the Meet and Greet before the game started, so we walked around the coliseum, where they have all kinds of activities going on, including this one where Jeff shot the ball into the hoop this guy was wearing :-).  It was a fun evening.

After the Art Show

Tonight was the big school district-wide art show at the auditorium. Both Mallory and Mason had pieces that were chosen to be displayed. Mal had to go early to see hers, because she had dance in Rock Hill tonight, but we met Addie, Lee, & the kids – and Roger and Bennie – there so Mason could show us his piece, and we found Mal’s. Alas, my pictures didn’t turn out that great from the art show, but I did get this one of our little artist when we went out afterwards for ice cream to celebrate. It was another good evening…

Addie’s birthday celebration

This evening we had Addie’s birthday supper here at the house. Lindee & family didn’t make it because Mallory was sick with a stomach virus, but everyone else was here, plus Boo and Elise, Meg and Hope, and Roger and Bennie. Here is the birthday girl blowing out the candles on her cake – a Hawaiian pound cake, which Charlie helped me bake when he was sleeping over the night before. It was a good evening.

Today was the 9th (I think) annual Feed Stokes 5K/Half Marathon, and Sherri & I drove up last night, spent the night with the King Smiths, and helped man a water station on the half marathon route. This year we were with the Interact Club from West Stokes. It was fun – what a great group of kids.

After the race, we had our traditional celebratory lunch at Little Italy.  I had so much of my chicken broccoli alfredo left over that Jeff, Charlie, and I ALL ate on it for supper tonight.  Rachel took this picture.  As always, just a special, special day.

Bible Pancake Supper

We are so blessed in Clover that our elementary schools offer release time Bible studies, where the students are bused (or, in Mallory’s case, they actually walk to the church across the street)offsite every week for Bible classes. Tonight was their big annual pancake supper fundraiser. There was I think the biggest crowd there I’d ever seen, and the kids did a great job. Here is Mal with singing with the other kids from Bethany Elementary.

Afterwards with her sister & cousins.  AND you can see both of her grandfathers in photobombing the picture :-).  Another good evening…

Charlie & Adam’s last games of the season

Last night we headed to Rock Hill to take in the boys’ final games. Not only was it their last game for the year, but it was Adam’s last game in the little kids’ league – next year he moves up to the bigger boys. What??? One of his coaches told me as we were walking out to our cars afterwards that she didn’t know what she’d do without a Long boy on her team! Here is Charlie coming out to warm up at half time. We do not, in fact, have guards at our little boys’ church league games – that’s one of the dads who helps Andrew coach, & was on his way either to or from work :-).
